Japan Summer League (JSL) will be the premier pro/amateur (pro-am) summer basketball league in Japan. In America, there are hundreds of pro-am summer basketball leagues such as Drew League, NBA Summer League, The Basketball Tournament, The Crew League, Seattle Pro-Am, Chicago League Pro-Am, Rico Hines Runs, etc. Players like Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Lamelo Ball, and countless other NBA and overseas pros have played in such leagues. However, Japan does not have any summer leagues that are known or as reputable as the American summer leagues.
These summer leagues generate hundreds to thousands of fans at the venues and they get thousands to millions of views and followers on social media. This untapped market could very well benefit successful growing sports companies that would like to invest or partner with the JSL. The JSL will also benefit the development of the Japanese athletes to improve and play a style of basketball that will help them to compete at a world level.
Michael Acuna, Azusa Pacific University Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach (NCAA) in Los Angeles, will be starting a development league for elite players from college, semi-pro, and professional ranks. The goal of the league is to build the ability of Japanese Basketball Players, grow the game of basketball in Japan, motivate the players in the youth programs, generate influence & buzz in the basketball community, cultivate a community for sponsors to market their products and services, and to help develop the athletes in mind, spirit, and body.
The JSL will be inviting key stakeholders of professional teams, sponsors, and FIBA agents. We will help these stakeholders assess young talent, but more importantly, serve as a community to help teams and representatives to meet and connect. The JSL will be a hub of recruiting, evaluating talent, and networking for all parties.
